How to Choose a Faucet for a Three-Hole Sink

Learn how to choose a faucet for a three-hole sink by confirming hole spacing, mounting style, sink clearance and valve configuration before you order.

A three-hole sink or countertop gives you several possible faucet configurations, but it does not make every faucet interchangeable. The center spout location, the distance between the outer holes and the available clearance determine whether a widespread, bridge or other deck-mounted installation is appropriate.

What to measure or confirm

  • Count the existing holes and measure center-to-center between the outer mounting holes.
  • Measure the diameter of each hole and the thickness of the countertop or sink deck.
  • Check the distance from the rear hole line to the backsplash, mirror frame or wall.
  • Map the sink bowl and drain so the spout can be positioned for practical water delivery.

How to use the measurements

Use the existing drilling as the starting constraint. If the chosen faucet does not match the hole pattern, confirm whether a professional can safely modify the surface before ordering.

Common planning mistakes

  • Ordering based only on the number of holes without confirming spacing.
  • Covering unused holes with accessories before checking service access.
  • Forgetting that handles need turning clearance near the backsplash.

Before you order

Compare the finished project measurements with the specifications for the exact fixture you intend to buy. Where plumbing, mounting or connection work is involved, confirm the installation approach with a qualified professional before cutting stone, drilling a sink or closing a wall.
