How to Plan Countertop Clearance for a Bridge Faucet

Countertop clearance is what allows a bridge faucet to be installed, operated and serviced without visual or physical conflict. The faucet needs enough space in front of and behind its mounting line, while the spout and handles need room around the sink and any nearby wall, window or cabinet.

What to measure or confirm

  • Measure the flat deck area behind the sink opening.
  • Record the mounting-line distance to the backsplash or window trim.
  • Check handle travel and the space around escutcheons or bases.
  • Measure upward clearance for a high-arc spout under shelves or cabinets.

How to use the measurements

Treat the faucet, sink and countertop as one layout. A bridge faucet can look proportionate on a deep farmhouse sink but crowded on a shallow deck with a close backsplash.
